Do you want to take a specific scientific topic or research forward on a long-term basis? Is there a specific scientist you believe in and want to support with research funds? Or is there a specific group of students you want to help out? And do you have at least €50,000 available? Then consider setting up a Named Fund. This way, you secure the gift deduction, but you don't have all the hassle of setting up your own foundation. Moreover, the spending of the donation is usually better guaranteed if it falls under the responsibility of a larger foundation.
Your involvement
If desired, the Named Fund can bear your own (family or company) name. In a donation agreement, we lay down agreements on the purpose of expenditure, the name, the duration and the way in which the capital is released for expenditure, as well as to what extent you are personally involved in the research. Of course, the research or project must fit in with Radboud University's objectives and ambitions, and there can be no substantive influence on the project.
No gift or inheritance tax
Because the Radboud Fund is registered as an ANBI, you do not need to pay gift or inheritance tax. It is possible to take out a Named Fund in life, but you can also include it in your will.
A special way to support Radboud University and Radboudumc is to include the Radboud Fund in your will. A bequest to science allows new generations of Radboud University students and researchers to develop, in turn making a valuable contribution to society. You can bequeath in three ways:
Appointing the Radboud Fund as (co-)heir
By naming the Radboud Fund as heir, you give the fund, together with any other heirs, the right to the entire estate upon your death. Your assets will be distributed to the heirs according to your provisions in the will.
Appointing the Radboud Fund as a legatee
You can also choose to appoint the Radboud Fund as legatee. You will then leave the fund a clearly defined gift (bequest). This can be an amount of money, but also movable or immovable property (e.g. a collection of books, a painting or a house).
Setting up a named fund in a will
A Named Fund allows you to support a specific theme or research for a long period of time. You can choose the name yourself; this way, your own family or company name can continue to exist. Setting up a Named Fund is possible from an investment of €50,000.
No inheritance tax
Because the Radboud Fund is registered as an ANBI, you do not have to pay any inheritance tax. Whatever form of bequest you choose, the contribution will fully benefit the chosen cause.
Personal advice
Arranging a legacy is not something you do every day. We will be happy to discuss your wishes and the possibilities within Radboud University. Lisette Pals is happy to think along with you.
Be inspired by donor Leon
Radboud alumnus Leon Römkens started a Named Fund: "Equality in opportunities is important, also for strengthening science. With the port in sight, talent should not run aground. Lisette Pals helped me set a goal, design my own fund and anchor it legally. As a result, it was not as much work for me. Those were pleasant conversations."
Experience of relationship manager Lisette
"Helping someone shape a legacy is very special. It's about listening, about giving time and space, about making the connection between the giver's wishes and the research area that matches them. It is rewarding work to give donors the peace and satisfaction that everything is settled, and the joy that they can make a real impact with their contribution," says relationship manager Lisette Pals.
