What if trees could remember? What if rivers had a will of their own, and the weather acted according to its own interests? According to Western worldview, this is impossible: consciousness and thought belongs only to beings with brains. Rivers just flow. Trees just grow. Weather just happens. But what if we saw trees, mountains and rivers as active participants, as in many Indigenous cultures worldwide? What would that change about how we see ourselves, and our place in the world?
Come and listen to Indigenous Studies scholar Laura De Vos and artist Adriana Knouf on Indigenous worldviews of the nonhuman world.

About the speakers
Laura De Vos is an Indigenous Studies scholar at Radboud University. Their research focuses on North American Indigenous social movements and international solidarity with these movements. They are the author of Voorbij Winnetou en Pocahontos.
Adriana Knouf is an artist, writer, musician, and xenologist. She engages with topics such as space art, satellites, radio transmission, non-human encounters, drone flight, queer and trans futures and machine learning.

Schemerlicht is an evening walk through the Goffertpark in Nijmegen, where art, nature, and science come together around a shared theme. Along the route, visitors encounter audiovisual art installations that give the park its own unique rhythm and color. In collaboration with Radboud Reflects, an in-depth program is offered in which speakers explore the theme from a variety of perspectives.
