Inland shipping has ground to a halt, houseboats have been left stranded, and the landscape has turned yellow. Elsewhere in Europe, too, it has been a summer of extremes, marked by wildfires, severe storms, and failed harvests.
Is this the new normal? How should we deal with the consequences of climate change? And why is there so little sense of urgency?
