“Where are you really from?” For one person, it’s a sincere question; for another, it’s a discriminatory one. Why does one person interpret a remark as a factual statement, while someone else sees it as a clear form of discrimination? The Constitution seems straightforward: equal cases deserve equal treatment. But in practice, things are far more complex. Come listen to sociologist Niels Spierings, philosopher Hasan Erkan and alderman Cilia Daemen as they explore the reasons behind these differing perceptions—and whether understanding them can help reduce discrimination.
