Course | Hannah Arendt: Politics and the Individual

THIS COURSE IS SOLD OUT | DUTCH | Who was Hannah Arendt, and what would she have thought about our modern society? What would she, for example, have said about protest and action, about social media, fast fashion, and the relationship between violence and politics? Hannah Arendt (1906–1975) saw humans as political beings. In her famous book The Human Condition, she describes the importance of civic participation, freedom, and the plurality of human voices. Join this five-part course with philosopher Tim Miechels and learn what, according to Arendt, is the role of the individual in politics and what makes us human.

    Arendt’s thinking in contemporary society

Hannah Arendt wrote The Human Condition in 1958, but her ideas remain relevant today. What is the role of the individual in politics? Does society estrange us from ourselves? Or do we only truly become ourselves within society by engaging in politics? How does Arendt’s thinking relate to our contemporary society? Register for this course and reflect on her intellectual legacy.
