Changes through time
Hysteria and Asperger’s are no longer used as diagnoses today. Psychiatry, its methods, and its insights change over time. Philosophy helps us understand such changes, but also plays a role in initiating them.
Which approaches are used to interpret disorders—and why those particular approaches? Do you focus on symptoms and their biological basis? Or do you also take environmental factors into account? What do narratives, for example about unusual experiences, contribute to psychiatric practice? And wouldn’t a combination of multiple approaches be better?
Join this course and continue reflecting on the philosophy of psychiatry.
