When jazz musicians start improvising, it sometimes seems like they are just trying to do something. But behind the flowing melodies lie rigid rules with clear boundaries and according to shared schedules. It is precisely because of these frameworks that true freedom can exist. Without this shared structure, music quickly deteriorates into uncoordinated chaos. Can we say the same about our society? And do we actually still have a collective structure that binds us? Together with cognitive philosopher Marc Slors, dive deeper into the equation between jazz and society and listen to live jazz music by bass guitarist Teun Creemers and saxophonist Wietse Voermans.
