Tuesday 21 October 2025 | 20.00 - 21.30 hrs | Theatre Hall C, Radboud University | Radboud Reflects and the Municipality of Nijmegen

How significant was Nijmegen’s role in the colonial slavery system? New research reveals that city officials in Nijmegen enabled slavery, sustained it, and personally profited from it.

What does this knowledge mean for how we view our city? How does this past continue to shape the present? And what does it ask of us—as citizens, as leaders, as a society?

Come listen to historian Joris van den Tol, researcher Nikita Krouwel and chair of NiNsee Dave Ensberg-Kleijkers reflect on Nijmegen’s slavery history. Mayor Hubert Bruls will open the evening.
