Who is Sylvia Wynter, and why should anyone interested in decolonialism get to know her? Sylvia Wynter is a prominent Caribbean artist and thinker. In her work which includes philosophical essays, novels, and texts for theatre and film she expresses radical criticism of Western humanism. She argues that this humanism excludes black, indigenous and colonised peoples from the definition of “human”. Wynter develops new frameworks for existence outside colonial constructs.
