Thursday, September 17, 2026 | 8:00–9:30 p.m. | Lecture Hall Complex, Radboud University | Radboud Reflects and Gender, DEI, and Social Safety.
Women are once again taking up the fight against inequality, inappropriate behavior, and femicide. Because in society, online, and in politics, traditional and conservative ideas about gender relations are becoming increasingly normalized once more. As early as 1949, the French philosopher and writer Simone de Beauvoir wrote extensively about the position of women in her classic work The Second Sex. Philosopher and writer Alicja Gescinska has written a retelling in which she has De Beauvoir deliver a passionate—and at times hilarious—tirade against the recent revival of conservative ideas and in favor of the liberation of women… and men. Learn from philosophers Alicja Gescinska and Katrine Smiet what Simone de Beauvoir would think of the status of women in 2026.
