Applying for funding from the Radboud Fund

The Radboud Student Fund subsidises initiatives, projects and organisations that have an impact on Nijmegen student life and are in line with the strategic themes of Radboud University. The fund does this based on the belief that it has a positive effect on the development and well-being of students.

The Nijmegen Fund for Feminism and Religion (NFFR), part of the Radboud Fund, supports students and staff of Radboud University doing research on feminism, religion and gender. International researchers temporarily residing in Nijmegen can also apply.

Applications can be made twice a year: before 1 May and before 1 November.

The fund was set up to stimulate emancipatory research with a broad view on religion. Supported themes range from Christian-feminist theology to Islamic feminism and the role of women in religious traditions.

What is funded?

The grant (max. €2,500) is for costs not reimbursed by faculties, such as:
- conference attendance
- guest speakers
- publication costs
- travel and accommodation costs

Salary costs are not eligible.

Examples of supported projects

- Research on Frieda Gross, pioneer of the sexual revolution.
- Study on gender and religion in Chinese and Vietnamese marriages.

The Anna Terruwe Fund, part of the Radboud Fund, supports research, education and social initiatives in the field of mental health. Central to this is the philosophy of psychiatrist Dr Anna Terruwe (1911-2004), founder of attachment theory: people only truly develop in essential contact with others.

The fund stimulates projects within or on behalf of Radboud University and/or Radboudumc that translate this vision into a current scientific and social context.

September 2025: final call

The Anna Terruwe Fund works with calls; it is not possible to submit applications outside of these calls. The final call is now open and closes on Monday, 5 January, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. There is a budget available for five project grants of up to €25,000 per grant.

• Project grants from the Anna Terruwe Fund are available to researchers, students, educators, policy officers, and professionals in mental health care or social services.
• Applications must have a coordinator who works at Radboud University or Radboudumc. This person is responsible for the progress of the project and reports on it to the advisory committee at agreed times.
• The Anna Terruwe Fund encourages collaboration with other universities, practical institutions, and other stakeholders. In applications involving multiple parties, it must be clearly indicated how the project is institutionally anchored within Radboud University and/or Radboudumc.

The work of Dr. Anna Terruwe

In numerous publications, Anna Terruwe has sought to systematize the effect of affirmation as a therapeutic principle into a doctrine. Her insights fit with broader developments in post-war psychiatry and psychology. Her ideas still touch on broader contemporary issues that (young) people struggle with in this digital age: contact with others, self-esteem, and authenticity.
