The old intranet platform, RadboudNet (Iprox) was outdated and needed to be phased out. There was a growing need for a modern, secure, and accessible intranet solution for specific, larger, closed groups within the university. These included faculties, institutes, thematic groups such as faculties, divisions, and institutes. This would prevent fragmented information, loss of central oversight, and the emergence of undesirable 'shadow IT' (situations where employees resort to alternative, often unmanaged solutions).
The intranet tooling was developed using Drupal, the content management system also used for ru.nl. This allows us to build on existing knowledge, technology, and processes. The project aligns with the university’s broader strategy to make communication more user-focused, secure, and future-proof.
What does the new intranet offer?
The new intranet offers:
- Group pages, accessible only to authorized members of that group;
- Secure access using your Radboud-account or via SURFconext.
- Relevant and accessible information for your group or department
- News, response options and an event calendar, tailored to your group or department;
The intranet was specifically designed for larger, closed groups within the university, such as faculties, divisions, and institutes.
Marketing & Communication (M&C) takes ownership of the new intranet service and they are be responsible for functional management. Information & Library Services (ILS) handles development and application support. The solution is scalable and expandable, making it ready to onboard future groups.
Planning
- Design Phase (June – September 2025)
In this phase, the functional and technical design is developed. This includes wireframes, user permissions, navigation structure, and integrations with PBS and SURFconext. A communication plan would also be created for the intranet’s launch. - Development Phase (September 2025 – April 2026)
The core functionality of the intranet is built in Drupal and tested. Content from three ‘early birds’ (pilot groups) would be migrated from RadboudNet. Extensive testing would take place, including user acceptance testing. - Implementation and Go-Live (since May 2026)
The intranet would be launched for the first user groups. Training would be provided for communication staff and site owners. After a successful launch, the service would be handed over to the M&C and ILS management teams. - Transition period (summer 2026 – early autumn 2026)
Information from RadboudNet will be transferred to other locations. - Go-live (1 October 2026) The intranet groups for all faculties, the Radboud Teachers Academy, and the Finance & Control, Information & Library Services, and Academic Affairs divisions will go live. The intranets of several other organizational units will follow over the course of October.
- Radboudnet.nl pages in Iprox will go offline (from November 2026)
The Radboudnet.nl pages that are still managed in Iprox will go offline. The administration environment will remain available for the time being. - Iprox will be permanently closed (from December 2026)
From December 2026 onwards, Iprox (including RadboudNet) will be permanently shut down and will no longer be available.
