Savings in the I-pillar
Duration
2025 until now
Project type
Organisational

The Information pillar (I-pillar) includes all ICT and library services. The I-pillar aims to make its services more predictable and manageable. Additionally, the entire I-pillar must achieve savings of six million euros by 2029.

Current status

The I-pillar is currently focusing on three strategic initiatives:

  • Development of an I-strategy. This will define the course of the I-pillar and runs parallel to the formation of Radboud University's new overall strategy. The I-strategy also serves as a decision-making framework for the I-pillar's service delivery: what are we doing now, what will we do, and what will we stop doing? In short, the strategy sets the direction we want to take as a pillar, along with the services that align with that direction.
  • Development of an Improvement Plan for the I-pillar, in which the current way of working, service delivery, and governance of the I-pillar are analyzed in relation to the challenges it faces. This will result in an Improvement Plan that includes, among other things, a new service model.
  • Business operations optimisation process. In this initiative, a deep dive has been carried out and cost-saving initiatives are being implemented. This will yield savings of three to four million euros.

These three initiatives together form the foundation for a Reorganisation Plan that is currently being developed. The plan is scheduled to be ready by the end of 2025 in order to enter the decision-making process.

Ongoing Projects

Several projects are currently underway within the Business operations optimisation process initiative to organise the I-pillar more efficiently while also implementing improvements:

  • Expanding self-service options for ICT-related queries from staff and students
  • Increasing the cost-effectiveness of the network
  • Standardising laptops and mobile phones for staff
  • Phasing out 1,000 desktop PCs in student workspaces
  • Improving the management of device loans and returns
  • Reducing the opening hours of the ICT helpdesk
  • Replacing Adobe Creative Suite with open-source alternatives
  • Reducing the physical collection of the University Library
  • Rationalising and optimising the services of the Catholic Documentation Centre
