Austerity measures

In 2024, Dutch universities were faced with major cutbacks due to declining student numbers (reference estimate), salary increases due to collective labour agreements and government-announced cutbacks in starter and incentive grants. In response, the Faculty of Social Sciences presented the 'FSS Future-proof' program and a package of measures was implemented. The commitment within the faculty to jointly face this challenging cutback assignment is admirable. Unfortunately, however, it appears that these measures have not had sufficient effect and that even more cutbacks will have to be implemented.

Future-proof faculty

A future-proof faculty with a strong foundation and a focus on quality, people and our environment. That is the goal of the austerity measures and projects in the faculty's programme plan.

Several project teams are working on solutions that aim to future-proof the faculty in the midterm.
