Social safety

With the Prevent Care Cure project we are working towards a socially safe and inclusive university. After a round of interviews at all faculties and departments in early 2024, we have been actively working on strengthening social safety ever since. In doing so, our project team is working with colleagues from across the organisation on sixteen key themes. Stay up to date with developments via this page.

What we do

Prevent

We focus on prevention and on strengthening a culture in which we address each other about undesirable behaviour in a respectful manner. We do this by strengthening leadership within the organisation, offering training to staff and students and further improving our HR policy so that there are clear guidelines for everyone.

Care and Cure

Radboud University disapproves of any form of transgressive behaviour. When it occurs, we provide a safe way to discuss it. Where necessary, we take adequate and proportionate measures and provide aftercare, with consideration for all involved. We do so on the basis of transparent and clear agreements. We also set up an accessible reporting system where students and staff can report.

Social safety themes

View highlighted topics below. More information on the other themes can be found in the project plan.

Safe@RU contact point

We are working to set up a Radboud-wide contact point for signals and reports of transgressive behaviour. The Safe@RU contact point will improve the reporting of transgressive behaviour and the approach and follow-up.

Social safety development modules

We strengthen knowledge and skills of employees and managers so that they can contribute to a safe and open culture. To this end, we develop modules that help them act professionally and with integrity and deal adequately with undesirable behaviour.

Improve and digitise annual review

We are working on a good dialogue between employee and manager, with at least one annual review per year. We set up a university-wide process, supported by an application. We are implementing improvements to ensure that annual reviews are conducted in a uniform manner and their reports are easily accessible and insightful.

Talking about social safety

We help staff and students make conversations about social safety easier and more natural. Through various activities, we reflect together on desired and undesired behaviour, learn to give feedback and discuss dilemmas around integrity and social safety.

Code of conduct for employees

We evaluate the existing code of conduct for employees and adjust it if necessary. We ensure that the code of conduct is more actively embraced within the organisation. The code of conduct helps provide clear frameworks for acting with integrity.

Code of conduct for students

We are developing a code of conduct for students. This code clearly describes what behaviour is desirable and undesirable on and off campus, especially if it affects the learning and working environment.

Campaign creates room for dialogue on (un)desirable behaviour

Project organisation

Prevent Care Cure is implemented in a structured way. A large project team organises all the activities as best it can. The team includes staff from Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Marketing & Communication and other specialists. The progress and direction of the project are monitored by a steering committee of administrators, directors and a scientific expert. In addition, regular consultation takes place with a sounding board of internal stakeholders, such as participational bodies, students and staff, who contribute different perspectives.
