The teacher as coach

Contents of the training

Coaching individual students or small groups requires different skills from teachers than the ones you use in traditional education. Think of stimulating students in active learning, taking initiative, collaborating together, and taking responsibility for their own learning process. This training focuses on the coaching relationship between teacher and student, group processes, and conversational skills.

Target audience

This training is designed specifically for teachers who interact with students in a coaching manner. This role can be found when teaching in a personal and professional development (PPD) course or as a mentor, for example. Ideally you attend the first meeting before, and the second meeting in parallel with your coaching tasks.

Method during the training

The training is custom-made. Depending on the setting you/your group of teachers is in, the focus will either be on coaching in a one-on-one situation or coaching in a group. In principle, the training consists of two meetings of 3 hours, a feedback meeting of 2 hours, and a personal conversation with the trainer. During the meetings there is a lot of space for experimenting and sharing experiences with fellow teachers. Between the meetings you make some assignments. Upon successful completion, you will receive a proof of participation. The training is in English, unless all participants speak Dutch.

Costs

The total workload is about 14 hours. Participation is free of charge.
