The Dutch Education Award is awarded annually to education teams that have successfully worked on innovation in education. The funding is a sign of appreciation for teams at MBO, HBO and/or WO. The award is also meant as an encouragement to keep working on educational innovation and knowledge sharing.
Characteristics of the education award
- Thematically free projects;
- For educational teams consisting of, for example, teachers, educational advisors, researchers and students;
- The educational teams have a lot of discretionary power when it comes to the spending of the award;
- Prize winners will be selected in two stages.
Budget
Up to €7,500,000 in total is available for the Dutch Education Award. It will be divided among three teams from secondary vocational education (2.5 million euros), three teams from higher professional education (2.5 million euros) and three teams from university education (2.5 million euros).
The funding is allocated to a maximum of three educational teams per sector:
- the first prize of the Dutch Education Award amounts to €1,200,000;
- the second prize of the Dutch Education Award amounts to €800,000;
- the third prize of the Dutch Education Award amounts to €500,000;

Faculties should forward applications for a the Dutch Education Award 2025 to Niels van Roon, (Education Affairs) before 5 October 2024. As only one application may be submitted per institution, in case of multiple applications, a choice will be made in consultation with the rector magnificus.
