Area vision campus: letter of intent

A campus with more space for pedestrians, cyclists, greenery and encounters, in the middle of a wooded landscape with special and characteristic buildings. That is the picture of the future for 2040 as proposed by Radboud University, Radboudumc, HAN University of Applied Sciences and the municipality of Nijmegen. This joint vision of the future has been laid down in an initial vision document for the campus.

What ambitions for the campus?

The area vision outlines the future image and ambitions for the campus. Its green character, rich history and characteristic buildings form the basis for the future image. The choice was made for a campus with more space for pedestrians and cyclists, greenery and encounters, but also room for innovative activity (around research, education and patient care) and living. The campus will also be a lively place, as new facilities and activities will be concentrated in so-called clusters. On the campus, 30 km/h will be the norm; this applies to Heyendaalseweg, Kapittelweg, Philips van Leydenlaan, Erasmuslaan and Houtlaan. To prevent visitors to the campus from parking in surrounding neighbourhoods, paid parking will be introduced there.

Letter of intent

This area vision was adopted separately by the various parties by the end of 2024. On 6 February a joint declaration of intent will be signed in Huize Heyendael, after which the cooperating parties of 'Duurzaam Bereikbaar Heijendaal' will start working on the elaboration of the area vision.
