Carolien van Ham has been appointed as a member of the Royal Holland Society of Science (KHMW). The KHMW was established in 1752 and is the oldest ‘learned society’ in the Netherlands. The KHMW aims to promote science and strengthen the interaction between science and society by connecting societal actors with researchers drawn from the natural sciences, the humanities and the social sciences. Thanks to its unusual structure, the KHMW can act as an effective meeting place for leading voices from within and outside academia. It is also in a unique position to provide independent judgement, for example by facilitating several prestigious awards and fellowships.
