On Wednesday 24th, Roderik Krebbers from TDLab has remarkably defended his PhD thesis in the Aula and earned the distinction “cum laude”.
The thesis stands out for its originality, innovative spirit and outstanding scientific quality. Roderik has introduced entirely new approaches to mid-infrared gas sensing. The main achievements represent first-of-their-kind demonstrations and set new standards in the field: the demonstration of plasma diagnostics using a supercontinuum source, development of a gas monitoring system using new source based on intrapulse difference frequency generation from mode-locked lasers and pioneering field deployments. After a half year internship to NIST (Boulder, Co, USA), Roderik returned to the TDLab to continue his academic carrier. “As supervisor, it has been a privilege to guide and witness Roderik’s journey. I am incredibly proud of him, and I know that this achievement is just the beginning of many more to come” (Simona Cristescu).
