Academic Companion – making room for what really matters

Working in academia can be incredibly inspiring and meaningful. At the same time, the pressure can be high, and it can sometimes be difficult to make space for yourself and for what matters to you amid all the deadlines, expectations and ambitions.

With Academic Companion, I want to contribute to an academic world where people can not only perform well, but also work with enjoyment, resilience and in line with their own values.

Academic Companion is for researchers, lecturers and other professionals in academia who want to take a moment to reflect on questions such as: What is important to me in my work? What gives me energy? How do I deal with workload, expectations or chronic stress? And which choices are right for me?

I offer individual coaching, workshops and lectures on topics such as well-being, chronic stress, resilience, personal development and making conscious choices in work and career.

My name is Maartje Luijten, PhD. I am a psychologist registered with the Dutch Institute of Psychologists (NIP), a certified coach and an Associate Professor of Wellbeing at Radboud University. After almost twenty years in academia, I know both its rewarding aspects and its challenges from the inside. With Academic Companion, I combine my academic and psychological background with evidence-based coaching methods to support people in experiencing more space, direction and agency in their work and lives.
