Deceived by phishing emails | Radboud University

A number of employees with science.ru.nl accounts appear to have been deceived by a phishing email recently. They clicked on a link in a fraudulent email and then entered data in the link. This enabled the authors of the phishing email to send new phishing emails from those science.ru.nl accounts. Those emails included recipients from other research universities and universities of applied sciences. The relevant organisations were informed of the incident on Tuesday 19 November.

Once Radboud University took note of the deception, appropriate measures were taken immediately so that no more bulk emails could be sent. All users with a science.ru.nl account have been asked to beware of phishing emails via a message.

Raising awareness

Radboud University is investigating the matter further and is taking ongoing measures to prevent such incidents in the future. For example, Radboud University's automated system already intercepts large numbers of phishing emails every year. In addition, the University is committed to raising awareness among employees around information security, for example by repeatedly sharing the following tips.
