Faculty Board update - April

The Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences informs you about the activities of the past few weeks.

24 April 2024

At the meeting on 24 April 2024, the board discussed the progress of the sector plans

The follow-up to the board's recent visit to Maastricht University's Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience was also discussed. At the end of March 2024, a meeting took place between the Faculty Boards to determine in which fields more cooperation could be achieved. This included exploring how connections can be made within neuroscience education and research and exchanging information on themes such as Recognition & Rewards. The first exchange was very successful and will lead to follow-up activities between the two boards and those involved in the cooperation themes.

In the period from the end of April to May, the board consults with those involved in the interfaculty projects stimulated and temporarily financed by the Executive Board about the (interim) reports recently delivered and the structural layout of the projects. These are the following projects:

  • Adaptive Language
  • Baby and Child Research Centre
  • Centre of Decision Science
  • Impuls voor innovatief leren (Impulse for Innovative Learning)
  • Radboud AI
  • Radboud Innovation Programme Active Living

17 April 2024

The Education and Examination Regulations (EER) of a programme include more information on the programme's structure, the rules and course of action regarding education and tests, and the rights and obligations of students and teachers. The programmes' EERs are reviewed annually. In its meeting on 17 April 2024, the board discussed the draft EERs 2024-2025 and decided to submit them to the Faculty Joint Assembly (FGV) for approval.

To properly carry out our core tasks of education, research and impact, it is important to clarify the structure, division of tasks and working methods of our organisation. The way Radboud University is organised is determined by laws and a number of internal university regulations, such as the Structure Regulations and the Administrative and Management Regulations. The Faculty Regulations lay down rules to further regulate the governance and organisation of the faculty.

The faculty's structure has changed in recent years, for example, the new educational organisation in 2022. The embedding of the faculty's academic departments is also currently being worked on to develop Radboud University's governance model further. As a result of these developments, FSS's current Faculty Regulations are now outdated, and a new Faculty Regulation is being drafted to suit FSS's current structure.

The board has discussed a first draft of the new Faculty Regulations as well as the embedding of the academic departments; the board will submit these to various sections of the faculty for input in the coming weeks.

10 April 2024

Following a number of recent appointments, the Faculty Board discussed how to make appointment procedures more transparent for the organisation. The board also formulated several concerns to be prepared for the Appointment Advisory Committee (BAC) report.

In the past few weeks, the board held the 'spring talks' with the education, research and training institutes, partly in response to the 2023 Annual Report. Topics discussed included:

  • The implementation of the educational vision
  • Action points from the educational quality cycle
  • Visitations
  • Keuzegids Universities (University Choice Guides)
  • Intake and progression to the master's
  • Internationalisation
