Faculty Board update - September

The Board of the Faculty of Social Sciences informs you about the activities of the past few weeks.

25 September 2024

Every year, each faculty establishes an annual plan and a budget. A rough outline for the plans for 2025 was sketched during a corporate retreat at the beginning of September which was attended by the directors, the heads of departments of the Faculty Office, a delegation from the co-determination group, and the faculty board. This outline was then elaborated on, which eventually led to the annual plan for 2025. The first version of this plan has been discussed by the board. The board has also discussed the budget for 2025, taking into account the budget cuts as announced by the Dutch government. All FSW employees have received further information regarding this on Wednesday the 25th of September.

The board explained the FSW budget for 2025 in the Faculty Joint Assembly. The board will publish this after establishing the annual plan for 2025.

18 September 2024

During a away day held in early September with the programme directors, education director, research directors, heads of departments within the faculty office, a representation of the Subdivisional Committee and the Faculty Student Council, and the faculty board, the foundations were laid for a future-proof plan to keep the faculty financially sound. The board is discussing the first draft of this plan.

The board discusses the progress of various administrative appointments.

ODISSEI is the national research infrastructure for the Dutch social sciences. Through ODISSEI, researchers have access to large-scale, longitudinal data collections, as well as innovative and diverse forms of data. These can be linked to administrative data from Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Membership of ODISSEI provides access to research funding, training and discounts on the use of important, large data sources, such as those from the LISS panel and CBS data. ODISSEI also guarantees the data collection of a number of national, international surveys such as European Social Survey, World Value Survey and our own NELLS.

11 September 2024

FSW has several teaching awards. The board has decided to simplify the faculty teaching awards. The call for the Faculty Teaching Awards 2024-2025 will soon be launched in the faculty.

Each faculty has a Faculty Joint Assembly (FGV) in which the Faculty Student Council and the Subject Committee consult with the faculty board. The first FGV of this academic year will take place on 12 September 2024. This FGV is all about getting acquainted.

4 September 2024

To properly carry out our core tasks of education, research and impact, it is important to clarify the structure, division of tasks and working methods of our organisation. The way Radboud University is organised is determined by laws and a number of internal university regulations, such as the Structure Regulations and the Administrative and Management Regulations. The Faculty Regulations lay down rules to further regulate the governance and organisation of the faculty. The organisation of the faculty has changed in recent years, think for example of the new educational organisation in 2022.

In recent months, work has been done to embed the faculty's academic departments to further elaborate the Radboud University's governance model. Work has also been done on drafting new Faculty Regulations that fit FSW's current set-up. The board discussed a first draft of the new Faculty Regulations as well as the embedding of the academic departments with various sections of the faculty. Work is currently underway to incorporate the input of these sections.

On 9 September, a away day with the board, programme, teaching and research directors, the department heads of the faculty office and a delegation of the employee participation body will take place. The topic of the away day will be the plans for 2025 and the financial challenges facing the faculty and the university. The results of this away day will be shared with the organisation during September.

28 Augustus 2024

Among other things, the board discussed the embedding of the Gender & Diversity department. The faculty has the Gender & Diversity chair group, but there was ambiguity about its institutional position. After several discussions on this subject, agreements have now been reached on the embedding of the chair group in the Gender & Diversity department.
