Rutjes, director of the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM) of Radboud University and head of the Synthetic Organic Chemistry group, is very pleased with the KNAW membership. “I am of course very honored with this appointment, it is a great acknowledgement of the scientific work in the field of organic synthesis that I have executed at Radboud University over the last 25 years.”
Synthetic Organic Chemistry
Rutjes is Professor in Organic Synthesis, the research group is part of the IMM. The group designs and synthesises biologically relevant small molecules and develops new sustainable synthesis methods. The fundamentally orientated group actively seeks collaborations with business and industry. Rutjes contributes to several chemical science communities that support the exchange of (scientific) developments and ideas for application and innovation.
Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1808 as an advisory body to the Dutch Government. The Academy promotes quality in science and scholarship and strives to ensure that Dutch scholars and scientists contribute to cultural, social and economic progress and is responsible for several outstanding national research institutes. They also bring forward their expertise in the various Academy juries and panels, and they are responsible for awarding scientific and scholarly prizes. “Recently we unexpectedly lost one of our scientific celebrities, prof. Roeland Nolte, who was a member of the KNAW for many years. I am very pleased that the representation of Nijmegen/Radboud in the KNAW remains at a good level. I would not be surprised if Roeland played an important part in my nomination, which makes it extra special to me.”
We warmly congratulate Floris with the KNAW membership.
