From dreaming to doing

We all have them: goals, dreams and ambitions which push you to keep developing. Yet not everyone manages to actually fulfil them. Action is often the key to success. But how do you take action? Personally, I am very motivated by inspiring words and powerful statements. Hopefully, these nine quotes will help you get moving too.

1. The power of action

"The distance between dreams and reality is called action." Action is the bridge between where you are now and where you want to be. So make a plan with achievable goals, concrete tasks and attach deadlines to them. And make your actions part of your daily routine. Through repetition, you create a habit and are more likely to achieve your goals.

2. Enthusiasm as driver

"Knowledge is power, but enthusiasm pulls the switch." Knowledge is important, but it is your enthusiasm that really drives you forward. If you are passionate about what you do, no challenge is too great. So find something that makes your heart beat faster and invest your time and energy in it. Don’t think: “How much will it cost?” But: “How will it benefit me?”

3. No excuses

"If it's important, you will find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse." We can all be guilty of finding excuses at times. But if something is really important to you, you will find a way to get it done. Identify what is holding you back and take steps to overcome these barriers.

4. Believe in yourself

"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle." Belief in yourself is your greatest strength and essential for success. Often the only limitations you have are the ones you believe in. When you are convinced of your own abilities, you radiate that and attract opportunities. See how substitute Wout Weghorst scored against Poland!

5. Stay positive

"Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change." It is incredible how powerful your thoughts are. Focus on positive and constructive thoughts, and don't get discouraged by negative thoughts. Surround yourself with positive colleagues, friends or trainers who support, motivate and inspire you. And visualise your success in advance!

6. The first step

"You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." We often let ourselves be held back for fear of the unknown and the seemingly enormous scale of our goals. It can be intimidating to look at the top of the mountain without knowing how to get there. But all that really matters is taking that first step. What is the first small step you can take today towards your goal?

7. Courage in action

"Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Courage means you don't let fear stop you." Courage is not the absence of fear, but the will to keep going despite that fear. Feeling anxious is normal, but don't let it stop you. Every time you overcome your fears, you grow and become stronger. Dare to act, perhaps with the help of a course, book or colleague. Or be inspired by my column about failure

8. Try something new

"Adventures are the best ways to learn." New experiences and adventures are often the best learning moments. They challenge you, break your routine and give you new insights. If you want something you've never had before, you need to do something you've never done before. When was the last time you tried something new?

9. Impact over direction

"It's not about the path you take, but the trail you leave behind." Don't be afraid to make the wrong choice sometimes. In the end, it is really about process and impact. What positive impact do you want to achieve? What impact do you want to have in your life and work? By answering these questions, you can be more focused and aware of your personal and professional goals.

Finally, doing more than you promised yourself and others never hurts. So see this tenth quote as extra encouragement to go full steam ahead:

"Shoot for the moon - even if you miss, you'll land among the stars!"
