Getting started with AI responsibly: sign up for a module or workshop

AI is playing an increasingly important role in education and research. That is why it is important to understand what AI is, what opportunities and risks it presents, and how to use it responsibly. To help you with this, there are various online modules and workshops available that will quickly and practically guide you through a responsible engagement with AI.

Online modules

For teachers

Via Brightspace Open Courses, you can register for the module Education and AI for teachers, available in Dutch and English. In this module, you will learn, among other things:

  • The difference between AI and generative AI (GenAI);
  • The impact of (Gen)AI on education and academic integrity;
  • Privacy, legislation and ethics;
  • Sustainability;
  • Teacher-specific topics, such as:
  • How to design courses with an eye for the opportunities and risks of AI;
  • How students use AI.

You can easily skip topics you are already familiar with.

For students

Would you like to point out the importance of AI literacy to your students? Then refer them to the module AI literacy for students in Brightspace. Like teachers, students can register for both a Dutch and an English version via Open Courses.

In this module, they will be introduced to the same fundamental AI topics as in the teacher module, but without the teacher-specific components. An expansion of the student modules is currently being investigated. The University Library and Into'Languages are among those involved in this.

For researchers

Researchers can register for the module AI literacy for researchers (in English) via gROW. Topics covered include:

  • The difference between AI and GenAI;
  • Academic integrity and responsible use of (Gen)AI;
  • Privacy, legislation and ethics;
  • Sustainability;
  • Research-specific themes, such as:
  • Radboud Code of Conduct;
  • Academic integrity and plagiarism;
  • Use of data for training large language models (LLMs);
  • Responsibility and core academic values.

In short: How do you, as a researcher, deal with AI in an honest, transparent and careful manner?

In this module, too, you can skip parts if you are already familiar with them.

For staff within professional services

A separate module or workshop is currently being developed for staff within the professional services. This focuses on how GenAI works: what AI is good at, and what limitations and risks are associated with it. More information on this will follow later.

Various workshops

Workshops Education & AI

In addition to the online modules for lecturers and researchers, the Educational Advice & Teacher Development team also offers two in-depth physical workshops: Education and AI – Double workshop. In these workshops, you will work on aligning your teaching with the impact of GenAI, both in your teaching design and in stimulating AI awareness among students.

Workshops for programmes

Would your programme like to work on AI literacy together? The Educational Advice & Teacher Development team is happy to help. The above workshops can be tailored to a team or programme. This allows you to work together on improving education. Consider, for example, the question: How do you design a course in such a way that, despite AI, you still achieve your learning objectives? Please contact cursusbureau [at] oo.ru.nl (cursusbureau[at]oo[dot]ru[dot]nl).

Education Days: “Building AI awareness among teachers

Want to know more about responsible AI use? Then register for the Education Days 2026 and take part in the round table session Building AI awareness among teachers on Wednesday 25 March.

Upcoming AI policy

A university-wide AI policy for education, research and operations is currently being developed. Would you like to contribute to the responsible engagement with AI within the university now? Then take an AI module and workshop.

Until the policy is finalised, the recently published 9 rules for responsible AI use provide guidance.

European AI Act

In August 2024, the European AI Act came into effect: a law designed to protect citizens from irresponsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) and to require organizations to handle AI with care and transparency. Radboud University is taking responsibility by launching the AI Act project. This initiative ensures the university complies with the legislation and promotes responsible AI use in education, research, and operations.
