How many days of holiday do you have left?

The season of long weekends has begun, the May bank holiday is just around the corner, and before you know it, summer will be here. Now is a good time to start thinking about your holiday plans for this year, as everyone needs a bit of rest and relaxation to recharge their batteries.

In BASS, you can view your current holiday balance and see how many holiday hours you can still take this year. You also record any holiday hours you take in BASS.

Different types of holiday entitlement and expiry dates

Your total number of holiday days is made up of different types. Each has a different expiry date. On the website, you will find more information about the different types of holiday entitlement and the expiry dates associated with them. The first expiry date for statutory holiday hours from last year (2025) is 1 July. So please ensure you have taken these days in time, otherwise they will lapse.

Using holiday entitlement in the Selection Model

If you have a high balance of holiday entitlement, you can also choose to use these days within the Selection Model for employment conditions. For example, you can sell hours for extra income or exchange them for additional travel allowance for commuting.

Exchange holiday pay in the Selection Model by 30 April at the latest

In addition to holiday days, there are other exchange options in the Selection Model. For example, if you wish to use your holiday pay as a source for exchange, do so before 30 April 2026. This is because holiday pay is paid out in May.

By making use of the exchange options, you may benefit from a tax advantage in some cases. For example, you can exchange (part of) your (gross) holiday pay for a (tax-free) allowance to cover expenses you have incurred. Examples include training costs or trade union membership fees.
