How neat is your workplace?

What if this happens to you... An email sent in your name that you know nothing about. Maybe a joke from a colleague or a serious risk? A tidy workplace is not just about putting away your coffee cup and throwing away papers.

You work with sensitive or confidential information more often than you think. Documents, summaries or emails can quickly contain information that is not meant for everyone. It's important that you don't leave anything at your workstation for everyone to see. This also means not leaving your screen open where someone else can access university data.

Anytime, anywhere

Your workplace is where you do your work, which can be anywhere. In the office, at home or on the move.

Our campus has an open character. Because of this open character, it is important to be aware of things, information, (un)acquaintances walking around and how you leave your workplace. Nobody is waiting for prying eyes. So don't leave confidential or privacy-sensitive information on your desk or screen, even if you're only leaving your desk for a moment.

And if you're working at home or on the move, think about who might be listening to a conversation or seeing what you're doing on your screen. Wherever you work, make sure confidential information is not lost or leaked to others.

Golden rule: clean desk and clear screen

Remember the golden rule of "clean desk and clear screen" every time you leave your workstation. Clean desk simply means putting away confidential information when you are not at your workstation. Clear screen means always locking your screen when you leave your workstation, even for a short time. A clean screen also means removing information from a flipchart or whiteboard after a discussion.

Be aware of information every day, because your knowledge is worth its weight in gold.
