‘We see that these themes are often addressed separately in education,’ says Sanne van Oosterhout, Study Advisor and Wellbeing Officer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Radboudumc/Radboud University. ‘However, the challenges faced by students and teachers require a connection between these themes. If you want to prepare students for a complex world, you need to make that connection visible and approach these themes in an integrated manner.’
Many education professionals struggle with the same questions: how do you create space for well-being without putting extra pressure on people? How do you ensure that inclusion and social responsibility become natural parts of the learning process? In this workshop, you will work interactively on solutions and translate ideas directly into your own practice. You will also take away concrete materials and examples that you can apply immediately with your team.
According to the session leaders, the current times call for education that goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge. Professionals need to be not only strong in their field, but also socially aware, resilient and able to collaborate across boundaries.
Participants are introduced to the comprehensive framework of the Radboud Health Academy, which focuses on three core competencies: eco-ethical leadership, social justice and inclusive collaboration, and personal well-being and resilience. They share best practices, explore their own perspectives and work in small groups on their own teaching practices. Where are these themes already visible? Where are the opportunities? And how do you design a concrete mini-intervention that can be applied immediately?
‘We want participants to take away something they can use tomorrow,’ says Sanne. ‘An idea, an action or a small change that can be implemented immediately. That’s why co-creation is central: less talk, more action.’
The workshop ties in seamlessly with the theme Time to build together. By designing together and exchanging experiences, connections are created between educational institutions, disciplines and roles. The result: inspiration, concrete tools and a concrete plan for your own teaching practice.
The session is aimed at teachers, students with a passion for education, educational developers, policy officers and administrators. It is precisely this mix that makes it so valuable: different perspectives lead to richer discussions and stronger solutions. According to Sanne, this is also the strength of The Education Days.
Curious about how you can combine sustainability, diversity & inclusion and well-being in your teaching practice? Then come and build together during The Education Days on 24 and 25 March. The session Building future-proof education together: Three integral themes will take place on Wednesday 25 March from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Radboudumc Experience Center.
