During the training, you will learn how to facilitate structured peer group reflection in which colleagues reflect on issues arising from their day-to-day work in a structured and confidential manner. The training is of interest to anyone who wishes to develop their skills in facilitating discussions using various peer review methods. A good discussion does not happen by itself. You will learn how to facilitate discussions in such a way that participants go beyond simply exchanging experiences or offering well-meaning advice, and actually help one another with their professional development.
Structured peer group reflection helps lecturers to learn from one another, support one another and develop further. For new lecturers, it can also help to increase job satisfaction and prevent burnout. As a facilitator, you not only guide this development, but you also witness how a group of colleagues grows into a learning community and how participants develop in their role as lecturers. In this way, you actively contribute to a university where colleagues are constructively engaged with one another and work together to improve the quality of teaching.
Practical information
The training will be delivered by a certified, external trainer. The kick-off session will take place on 12 November, from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm. In the spring of 2027, sessions will be held on 25 February and 22 April, both from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm. Two further sessions will take place in the autumn of 2027. Between sessions, participants will practise facilitating structured peer group reflection using various methodologies. Where necessary, participants may also contact the external trainer with any questions they may have between sessions.
To take part, you must practise facilitating peer review sessions throughout 2027. If you already have your own structured peer reflection group within your faculty or degree programme, that is excellent. If you would like to set up such a group, we can offer advice if required. For those who wish, the TLC can also facilitate opportunities to practise.
We invite lecturers and teaching trainers from all faculties to take part. In this way, we can work together to build a network of facilitators across the whole university.
