Major grant to coordinate research on Long Covid

On Wednesday 17 January, ZonMw announced an allocation of €9 million for the coordination of scientific research on Long Covid. Part of that amount will go to ethicists who will address the moral issues that arise in Long Covid and scientific research on Long Covid.

Which group of patients should receive the most attention? How do researchers deal with vulnerable groups such as children and people who are completely bedridden due to Long Covid? It is these questions and more that a team led by prof. dr. Vivienne Matthies-Boon will look into over the next three years.

More on the grant by ZonMw

It is very good that we can take the first steps towards in-depth research on Long Covid. Long Covid is a multiple, complex disease, which raises several ethical and socio-political issues. I am glad that the ethics part of this grant has landed at FTR. In the field of ethics and spiritual care, we have a body of knowledge and expertise to deal with these issues. - Vivienne Matthies-Boon
