Participation in the plus variant (40-hour working week on a full-time basis) is only possible under the flexible working hours scheme if you have a leave balance of no more than 80 hours (on a full-time basis) at the end of the year.
Until recently it was possible to make written arrangements with your supervisor in case of a higher leave balance to use these hours in the next year while maintaining the plus variant. The holiday and leave scheme has however recently been amended, removing this possibility.
In concrete terms, this means that your working hours – in case of a leave balance of more than 80 hours (on a full-time basis) on 31 December - will always change to the standard variant at the start of the new year, regardless of whether written agreements have been made or not.
The standard variant will be applicable for a full year; a request for the plus variant can only be made if your leave balance does not not exceed the aforementioned 80 hours on 31 December. The plus variant will then be effective starting 1 January of following year.
If you currently have a lot of leave hours left, it is therefore wise to start considering options now for taking extra leave in the last months of 2025 or using it in the Selection model. This will prevent you from your working hours being changed to the standard variant in 2026.
