Myra van Esch-Bussemakers new management director at the Faculty of Science

Myra van Esch-Bussemakers will become the new management director at the Faculty of Science (FoS) on 1 July 2026.

She joins from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where she worked as director of operations at Rotterdam School of Management (RSM).

With this new role, Myra is returning to her roots. She grew up in Nijmegen and Molenhoek and studied Psychology and Cognitive Science at Radboud University. She went on to obtain a PhD at the Nijmegen research institute NICI, a predecessor of the Donders Institute. She then held various positions at TNO, first as a researcher and later as a director. After that, she worked at Hoffmann, where she became manager of the Cybersecurity and Security Risk Management department. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she made the move to Erasmus University.

"I was happy at Erasmus," says Myra, "but when I saw the vacancy in Nijmegen, I was sold. Back to 'my university'! Fortunately, the match was mutual."

Myra is looking forward to joining FoS. "Education is really important to me, and I have a genuine passion for research. I'm excited to learn more about the research being done within FoS. I also enjoy thinking about how we can make an even greater impact through our research and teaching. Can we bring together expertise from the business world so that we can collectively contribute more to societal challenges? That's something I'd love to explore."

Myra is 53 years old and lives with her husband in Wijk bij Duurstede. She has two daughters, who both study in Enschede.
