No longer possible to license Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project yourself

Do you need a license of the applications Microsoft Visio Plan 2 and/or Microsoft Project Plan 3 for your work? It’s no longer possible to request this license yourself in the account portal. From now on, this must be requested via an authorized employee of your department. Microsoft Visio is an application that allows you to create (flow) diagrams, while Microsoft Project is an application for low-threshold management and collaboration within projects.

Why this change?

From 1 January 2025, the licences for Microsoft Visio Plan 2 and Microsoft Project Plan 3 will no longer be paid from the workplace support fee, as they are not for general, Radboud-wide use. They are person-specific licences. To make the workplace support fee more transparent and fair, the division Information & Library Services (ILS) has decided to remove the license fees for these software from the workplace support fee and charge them separately to the relevant departments.

An additional advantage here is that ILS, but also the faculties/services, are better able to control the license costs. For example, a recent survey showed that a considerable number of licenses were no longer in use, while these licenses were still being paid for by ILS. In the new methodology, it can be made much easier to understand each year who has which license in use.

Requesting for licenses only via an authorized employee

Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project are two separate applications, each with its own license. Thus, there is no joint licensing of the two applications. From now on, a license can only be requested via an authorized employee (off-campus VPN connection required) of your department. In addition, it is now also possible to request for a Project Plan 5 license.
