The Faculty of Social Sciences Teaching Awards (FOS) are presented annually during the Faculty End-of-Year Meeting in December. This year, the ceremony will take place on Thursday, 17 December. There are two awards: the Faculty Teaching Award and the Faculty Teaching Talent Award.
The awards are intended for lecturers who have made an above-average contribution to the quality of teaching and/or degree programmes. A jury reviews the nominations and, based on the criteria for the University Teaching Award (UOP), selects one winner for each award. The nomination is then formally endorsed by the Faculty of Social Sciences Board (FSW). Click here for the UOP regulations and the faculty addendum to these regulations.
The winners of the 2026 Faculty Teaching Awards will automatically become the candidates representing FSW for the 2028 University Teaching Award (UOP)*. These awards are presented at the start of the Academic Year.
We look forward to receiving your nominations by Friday, 30 October 2026, at the latest, via bestuur.fsw [at] ru.nl. The jury will convene in November. Article 5 of the UOP regulations sets out the requirements that a nomination must meet. A letter of support from the Faculty Board (the first bullet point listed) is not required for FOS nominations.
*As the UOP procedure has recently been revised and the timetable has been significantly shortened, the winners of the 2027 Faculty Teaching Awards will also be eligible for the 2028 UOP. For that reason, a one-off draw will be held in December 2027 to determine whether the 2026 winners or the 2027 winners will be nominated by the faculty for the 2028 UOP. After that, the procedures will once again run in sync.
