‘Recognition and Rewards’ is a hot topic, both at the national level and at Radboud University. The Radboud community is hard at work to tackle fundamental problems in the structure and culture of academia, problems such as work pressure, research funding, and assessment. Recognition and Rewards is also a priority of the Radboud Young Academy. We are striving to get Recognition and Rewards implemented in the different faculties. Many changes still need to happen, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take steps in the right direction in our immediate environment.
We think academic success is too narrowly defined and we want to shift the focus to a broad spectrum of achievements that should be recognized in our academic and professional staff.
That is why Radboud Young Academy organises the ‘Radboud Young Academy Recognizes and Rewards Prize’ for the fifth time. For this award every employee of Radboud University and Radboud University Medical Center can nominate a colleague or colleagues whose work should be recognized. Consider the following examples as inspiration:
- Is there a colleague who facilitates working together in a team?
- Do you know someone who consistently spreads the word about Open Science?
- Has a colleague sparked new ideas in young people through their public engagement?
- Is there a team member who fosters a safe and healthy work environment?
- Has a colleague made a lasting positive impact on students through their teaching enthusiasm?
Through a lottery we will select 6 winners, who will each receive a gift certificate of 500 euros. The draw will take place during the Radboud Young Academy Serendipity Session on 16 June.
Nominations are now open. Who would you nominate? Let us know and give a sign of appreciation to your colleagues as well as a positive impulse to a healthier academic culture, in which we recognise and reward the diverse talents crucial to a flourishing university.
You can nominate your colleague(s) for the Radboud Young Academy ‘Recognises and Reward – prize’ by sending an email to youngacademy [at] ru.nl (youngacademy[at]ru[dot]nl) at latest Monday 2 June. Please include in your email:
- Name of your colleague(s)
- Email addresses of your colleague(s)
- Reason why you nominate these colleague(s) (max 100 words)
We will inform all nominees about their nomination about one week before the event and ask their permission to publish the nomination (including name of the nominator) on our website.
