Reorganisation of the information pillar; possible temporary changes to services

The reorganisation of the information pillar has started. This reorganisation affects staff, their work and the processes within the information pillar. As a result, services in the areas of IT and library support may be temporarily affected.

During the period 2025–2029, work will be undertaken to further develop the organisation and services of the information pillar, with the aim of making the university more agile and resilient. This will enable the university to respond more quickly to (external) developments and threats. To achieve this, the information pillar has initiated a reorganisation. We kindly ask for your understanding if services are experienced differently during this period.

The new organisational structure means that some roles will be phased out, while new roles and teams will be created, with staff potentially taking on different responsibilities. Staff within this pillar were informed in detail last week about the reorganisation and the new organisational structure, which will officially come into effect on 1 July 2026.

As these changes affect staff and their work, they may also have an impact on services provided by the information pillar. In principle, all IT and library services will continue as usual. At the same time, staff will need time and attention to begin working in new teams and according to new ways of working. By allowing staff within the information pillar the time and space to adapt to the new situation, we enable the pillar to work towards predictable and reliable services for the entire Radboud University.

What will change within the information pillar?

Part of the new organisational structure is the introduction of a service-oriented way of working. Within this approach, service teams will be fully responsible for one or more information services, from (further) development through to delivery. All staff involved in a particular service will therefore be part of the same team. This also involves a new way of working, in which larger tasks are planned and carried out in smaller, manageable steps.

The new organisational structure means that teams will be reconfigured around services. As a result, colleagues, managers and the working environment may change for staff. It will also take time to further develop and adopt the new way of working.

Towards a future-proof information pillar

The transition to the new organisational structure is driven by rapid developments both within and outside the university. Digitalisation, stricter requirements in the field of information security, the rise of artificial intelligence, and issues relating to digital sovereignty require an organisation that can respond quickly and flexibly to new needs. In recent years, work has therefore been undertaken to develop a clear strategy for the information column.

The aim is to create a future-proof information pillar that operates efficiently, is agile and is better equipped to withstand external threats. In addition, the new organisational structure is expected to be more effective and to result in cost savings. The information column is required to realise savings of €4.8 million by 2029 at the latest.

The changes within the information pillar align with broader developments within the university. It was previously announced that the HR pillar will also transition to a new organisational structure. In this way, the university is working organisation-wide towards coherent, future-oriented services.
