Request from trade unions for insight into holiday hours

The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities provides for an investigation into how staff manage the taking and saving of holiday hours. The reason for this is that so-called ‘holiday backlogs’ often arise within universities: an accumulation of staff members’ unused holiday hours. In order to establish better arrangements, an understanding of the causes and practical experiences is required.

That is why this short, anonymous survey has been created. Your input is vital to understanding the issues surrounding the taking of holiday leave and to improving the collective agreement. No contact details or personal information will be stored. However, we do ask for your job title so that we can better interpret the results. The data will be used exclusively for the collective agreement negotiations. You can complete the survey until 15 April.

By ‘holiday leave’, we mean only your annual holiday entitlement; it does not include other types of leave such as parental leave or carer’s leave. If you work a full 38-hour week, you are entitled to 232 holiday hours per year: 152 statutory hours and 80 hours in excess of the statutory entitlement. Under the collective agreement, the basic principle is that these hours must be taken in the year in which they are granted. If you work part-time, this applies on a pro rata basis

This Microsoft Forms survey aims to identify the factors that influence whether you take or save up your holiday entitlement. Your answers will be processed anonymously and used solely for the purposes of this survey. Please tick the option that applies to you for each question. Please note: for some questions, you may select more than one answer.
