Starting 6 May: Major Windows 11 Update for Radboud Services Staff

From Wednesday 6 May, the update to Windows 11 25H2 will begin for Radboud Services staff. Employees of all faculties and other departments will receive the update starting 3 June. In this major update, which is separate from the monthly security updates, all Radboud-managed Windows workstations will receive a new version of Windows 11. Aside from a few minor visual changes to the Windows Start menu and Settings, nothing else will change regarding the use of Windows 11.

Note: the update takes longer than usual

Because this is a major update, restarting your device will take approximately 30 minutes. We therefore recommend performing the restart during your break or after work hours.

Install the update within 24 hours

As soon as your device is ready to complete the update, you will receive a notification in the bottom-right corner of the screen stating that you must restart your device within 24 hours. If you click “Postpone,” this notification will reappear every two hours. If you do not restart within 24 hours, the restart will be automatically enforced. This works the same way as with the monthly Windows (security) updates.

The importance of updates

It is important to install your updates in a timely manner on your workstation so that you can work safely with your desktop or laptop. Therefore, connect your workstation to the campus network on a weekly basis and restart your workstation regularly. Read more information here about keeping your workstation up to date.
