Whenever possible, the Library of Science also purchases e-book versions of required or recommended reading. These e-books are organized by study area in this guide. Using the special URL provided, instructors can link to the book in course materials and on Brightspace. This allows students to view or download them at home, and you don’t have to worry about copyright issues.
Copyright
Depending on how a publisher makes its e-books available, it is sometimes also possible to link to a specific chapter. There are no restrictions on linking to (chapters in) books in this way. This is in contrast to when you upload a PDF of a book (or part of a book) to Brightspace: in that case, you must comply with the copyright rules that we, as a university, have agreed upon with publishers. Open educational resources
More and more teachers are exploring options for using or developing open educational resources. This approach eliminates copyright restrictions, and students always have access. Want to learn more? Visit the “Open Educational Resources” page.
