A curriculum information system (CIS) makes the formation, management and further development of curricula clearer, more efficient and more user‑friendly for everyone involved; from lecturers and study programme directors to educational support staff. This creates greater insight into the structure, coherence and quality of education.
By making curriculum information available in a single institution‑wide system and “populating” it in a harmonised way, curriculum teams gain better visibility of the coherence in their education, collaboration between study programmes becomes easier and processes related to quality assurance become more efficient. In this way, a CIS will support and streamline the curriculum development process, making the work more rewarding content-wise and reducing manual tasks.
Students also benefit. A CIS offers more transparency regarding content and structure of the curriculum, including the expected study load. Indirectly, it helps students take control of their own learning path, which contributes to studyable and future‑proof education.
“SQill was experienced as user‑friendly by educational experts. In particular, being able to record the curriculum in detail was seen as a major added value. Where this is often still done manually or in spreadsheets, SQill will soon offer one central and visually clear environment for everyone involved in the development and organisation of education,” said project leader Dianne Akkerhuis.
Basic configuration and implementation
In the coming academic year (2026–2027) the university will implement the curriculum information system SQill. During this summer period the project group, together with the supplier and representatives from faculties and divisions, will prepare the basic configuration of the system. This will establish the technical and functional preconditions and the principles for further implementation.
These preparations form the basis for a careful and phased implementation of SQill across all programmes during the academic year. This represents an important step towards a more efficient and future‑proof process for curriculum development and management.
