Update housing FFTR #2

Proposed decision to move and timeline

In the last week of September, we informed you about the possibility that our faculty would move to the Maria Montessori building. The Faculty of Social Sciences is freeing up enough space in that building to house the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies if we would abandon one of the floors of the Erasmusbuilding. After a preliminary investigation of the option with Campus & Facilities (C&F) and the Faculty of Social Sciences, we are now in a position to conclude that our faculty can be adequately housed in the Maria Montessori building. The scenario where we would move within the Erasmus building per 1 January, is now officially off the table.

Today, the Faculty Board has taken a proposed decision to move to the Maria Montessori building and it will ask the student and workers council for advice on that decision in early 2026. Expect more information about the timeline from January onwards. The actual transition to the new building is currently expected to take place in the summer period.

First step toward Maria Montessori: preliminary investigation

The past months, we have explored whether the Maria Montessori building meets the specific requirements our faculty has in terms layout, visibility, education, research, accessibility, identity and appearance. That investigation has now been completed and the results are positive. In particular, it appears that it will be possible to ensure sufficient teaching spaces and study areas, retain a faculty coffee corner and provide sufficient workplaces that comply with health and safety regulations in the Maria Montessori building.

The next step toward Maria Montessori: definition phase

In January, the project group that works on housing will continue its work. The group consists of Renée Wagenvoorde and Mathijs van de Sande of the faculty's workers council, Nursabah Zivali (operational manager) and Annemarie Hinten-Nooijen (management director). Project leaders from C&F (that have worked on other relocations) and Radboud Sustainable Working will join the team soon. The project group will build on relevant information that was gathered when we explored moving into a renovated Spinoza building. In addition, you will be asked for input, either directly or via the head of your department. When and how this will take place will be communicated in the first months of 2026.

What can I do now?

Do not start packing immediately, but there is no harm in tidying up. You will receive detailed moving instructions in the run-up to the move. Do you expect to encounter any problems during the move? For example, because you have privacy-sensitive documents in your office or because you have accumulated an exceptional amount of material? If so, please contact Nursabah Zivali now.

Questions or remarks?

This topic will be on the agenda of upcoming staff meetings. If you have any questions or comments in the meantime, please contact your supervisor or Nursabah Zivali.
