Update on the new travel and relocation expenses scheme

On 1 July 2026, the new scheme for travel and relocation expenses will come into effect. The core of the scheme is the transition from a claims-based system to an allowance-based system. From now on, you will receive a fixed allowance based on your work schedule and your choice of transport. You will no longer need to submit expense claims. The scheme for relocation costs will be scaled back from 1 July.

Radboud University is currently working on implementing the scheme. This includes an application in BASS that allows you to manage your travel expenses and home-working allowance. In BASS, you enter the number of days you work from home and the number of travel days, and select your mode of transport to the campus: public transport, car or (electric) bicycle. If you choose public transport, you will receive an NS business card. You will receive an email explaining how and when to arrange this.

Reimbursement of removal costs

If, prior to starting employment, you live outside the Netherlands at a distance of more than 150 km from the border, you may be entitled to an allowance when you move. The scheme has been scaled back. From 1 July onwards, the costs covered will be the transport costs for moving your household effects and the travel costs to your new place of residence.

Sustainable mobility

By introducing the new scheme, Radboud University aims to reduce the administrative burden on staff and encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport. That is why the bicycle allowance in the Selection Model has recently been increased from €1,500 to €3,000. You can claim this allowance once every six years.
