Update publisher deals: publication quotas for Taylor & Francis and Oxford University Press to be reached in November

Open access publication quotas will soon be reached at Taylor & Francis and Oxford University Press. This means that authors may have to bear the cost of open access publication themselves after November, unless they use alternatives such as the ‘You share, we take care!’ scheme at Radboud University. Researchers can sign up for a notification service to stay informed about the status of these quotas.

A number of open access agreements that universities and UMCs enter into jointly with academic publishers have a limited number of articles that can be published OA annually at no extra cost.

This applies, for example, to the deals with Taylor & Francis and Oxford University Press. The maximum number of articles with these publishers is expected to be reached in the third week of November. Once the quota is reached, authors will no longer be able to publish under the deal at no extra cost. Researchers who want to be kept informed about the status of the cap on publisher agreements can sign up for a ‘notify-me service’

If your manuscript is accepted between the time the cap is reached and 1 January 2025, the publishers will still allow Open Access publication, but the Article Processing Charges (APCs) will have to be paid by the author during that period. If you do not have the means to cover these costs, you can use ‘You share, we take care!’. After a six-month embargo, your article will then be made public in the Radboud Repository.

If your research is funded by a funder that has signed Plan S, for example NWO or ZonMW, this route is not sufficient.
