Updates about easier and more secure login with RIS and eduVPN

More and more applications and systems already feature an easier and more secure way of logging in, namely with your new Radboud account and additional authentication. This will soon also apply to RIS/RIS for Students and eduVPN. Read the updates here.

Update 22 July:

From 31 July, a transition period will start where it occurs that a group of SURFconext applications (about 80) will be transferred to the new account and MFA (also for use outside NL). Of this group, 1 application cannot be transferred yet. From 31 July, you may see both the old and the new SURFconext environment when logging into applications.

Update 11 July:

For RIS and RIS for Students, as of 23 July 09.00 am you need to log in via this new way. From 24 July 11.00 am, this also applies to eduVPN. You will then log in with your new Radboud account (voornaam.achternaam [at] ru.nl) and no longer with your u-/s-/e- or z-account. If you have a Radboud University laptop, you won't have to log in as often, because you have already logged in at your workplace and authenticated yourself.

Logging in with just your username and password is too vulnerable these days. This is why access to more and more Radboud University applications is being made more secure with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA uses an additional means of identification to establish with more certainty that you are indeed the person logging in using your Radboud account. This means that in addition to your username and password, you log in with a code you receive via text message or via the authenticator app.

Without MFA authentication, you can no longer use the applications

Do you not have MFA set up yet? You can set up MFA via the Office portal. You can choose to log in via an authenticator app or SMS. If you want to change the chosen login method, for example because you have a new phone, do this in the Office portal as well.

When you don't have a phone available for MFA

Do you not have a Radboud University phone or are unable to use your own phone for MFA? Please contact the ICT Helpdesk.
