Wired network connections will be disconnected

From 3 March, wired network connections from docking stations on campus will be disconnected. This means that all laptops will now connect to the eduroam wireless network (wifi) by default, if this was not already the case.

Thanks to major improvements in Wi-Fi, there is no difference in quality between a wired or wireless connection anymore. Do you still need a wired connection to do your job properly? Then you can request it via the form.

Request wired connection

Not all buildings and connections are covered by this policy, such as:

  • Workplaces which are not managed by ILS (e.g.: certain departments within FNWI)
  • SURF managed connections (e.g.: Mercator buildings)

Before disconnecting wired connections in a building, you will be updated by the faculty first. Occasionally, cables are disconnected if our monitoring has detected a possible incident.

Disconnecting the still existing wired network connections is in line with the wishes and requirements of hybrid (time- and location-independent) working and Security
