Using work group folders

Via your Radboud-managed Windows computer, you can access workgroup folders via 'Quick Access'. Open the 'WrkGrp' folder at the top left via Explorer. 

If you open the ‘WrkGrp’ folder, you will be able to see all of your work group folders. Any work group folders that you frequently use can be pinned to ‘Quick access’. These folders will then appear at the top of your folder list:

  1. Open the Explorer.
  2. Browse to the folder you want to add.
  3. Right-click on the folder name.
  4. Click Pin to Quick Access.

Accessing via your non-managed Radboud devices or Mac

If you wish to access your work group folders off campus from your own computer or laptop, you will first need to connect to eduVPN. You can then connect to RU-Connect. Once you have connected to RU-Connect, a screen, which contains your ‘WrkGrp’ folder, will automatically appear. If you open the ‘WrkGrp’ folder, you will be able to see all of your work group folders.

References to workgroup folders may not work

The path to workgroup folders has been changed from \\cnas.ru.nl\wrkgrp to \\ru.nl\wrkgrp. As a result, references may no longer work properly. If you are experiencing error messages, you will need to change this path to access the files again.

This change has some potential implications, namely:

1.    Shortcuts no longer function.
2.    References in documents, scripts or programmes no longer work.
3.    Pinned items in Quick Access no longer work.
4.    Old versions of RU-Connect may not function correctly. Does this bother you? If so, please install the new version.

Updating old shortcuts in Quick Access

You may still have shortcuts to the old path in Windows Quick Access. You can remove these by right-clicking on the folder name and choosing 'Detach from Quick Access'.

Then, if you wish, you can attach the folder to Quick Access in its new location. To do so, use the instructions at the top of this page.
