Telephony

As an employee, you may use desk and/or cell phones. For questions about the possibilities at your faculty or department, please contact your telephone contact person. You will find an overview of the telephone contact persons per organizational unit in the Topdesk products and services catalog.

Desk phones

With desk phones you can make standard calls within the Netherlands and to 06 numbers. A 'fair use policy' applies here. This means that you only use your phone when necessary for your work.

If you want to call abroad more often, you can request this via your telephone contact person.

Mobile phone

With your cell phone you can make standard (unlimited) calls within the Netherlands and much of Europe. The limit for data usage is 20GB per month. Abroad, different rates and limits for calling, texting and data apply.

Check out this knowledge item for all the information such as our bundles, rates and limits. You'll find a document in the knowledge item for which countries a particular zone applies to and what blocks are in place. Contact your telephone contact person to have any adjustments made for your subscription, such as for work visits.

Fairphone as standard business smartphone

Radboud University has chosen the Fairphone as its standard business smartphone, effective February 1, 2026. This choice was made based on sustainability, lower long-term costs, and easier management and support.

The Fairphone is designed to last. Parts such as the battery and screen are easy to replace, extending the phone's lifespan. In addition, fair and recycled materials are used as much as possible in production, with attention to good working conditions. Fairphone also offers a 5-year warranty and 8 years of software support.

From the effective date, the university will in principle only supply Fairphones. In the interests of sustainability, in some cases Samsung devices that are still in good working order may be provided from existing stock. These will remain in use until they reach the end of their service life.

Employees may also use a private smartphone with an RU SIM-only subscription. The costs of using your own device will not be reimbursed.

Data only subscriptions

SIM cards are also available for your laptop or iPad. These subscriptions can only use mobile internet.

Contact your telephone contact person for more information.

I am going abroad

Abroad, different rates apply for calling, receiving calls, texting and surfing the Internet. These costs can add up very quickly.

Contact your telephone contact person for appropriate advice. You can find an overview of all rates in Topdesk.

Function access codes for cell phones

In Odido's manual, you will find more information about function access codes on your cell phone. Among other things, you'll find how to set up call forwarding and set up/listen to your voicemail.

Odido app

Through the Odido app, you can see your own usage and, if necessary, your PIN and PUK code. To do this, check your phone's Play Store or App Store. Note: create your account through the website with your Radboud e-mail address. This will not work via the app.

Additional options for desk telephones

Fill in the file for your phone model and mail the file to telefoonbeheer-ils [at] ru.nl

You can find more information about the 5312 and 5340 models on Mitel's website. Some things like multiple numbers on your phone or group switching you cannot set up yourself. Contact your department's telephone contact person for that.
