Sharing and storing files safely

There are several locations where files can be shared and stored safely. You can select the location on the basis of the person with whom you wish to share the files and the degree of confidentiality of the information. First determine what type of information you are dealing with and then use the table to choose the right storage location.

Types of information

  1. Public: for documents that anyone may read and share.
  2. Internal: this information is for a specific group within Radboud University. Students, staff and guest employees, for example.
  3. Confidential: for documents shared only in a personal capacity and intended for people who really need to know. data that contains personal data or can be traced back to a person.
  4. Secret: data intended only for a few, predetermined people.

Choosing a storage location

Storage locations are suitable for storing a certain type of information if it is marked with a 'V'.

* = Information from a personal folder cannot be shared.

** = Critical information in a departmental folder can only be shared safely if the information is meant for the entire department.

Unsafe storage locations

Other storage locations are not suitable for storing and sharing sensitive data. Using your local or an external hard drive, Cloud storage such as Dropbox and Google Drive, NAS (Network-Attached Storage) or a USB stick is therefore not allowed.
